Sad Day In Red Bank High School Football posted March 26, 2008 It was a cool fallish type night in Red Bank. The young and old alumni of Red Bank High School gather for yet another exciting Friday night. As the crowd gathers, the anticipation grows. The cheerleaders and the spirit chain forms down in the far left corner of the football field. It is a tradition at Red Bank High School to go through such wonderful festivities. The crowd carries their pom-poms, air horns and other such things. The Red Bank High School comes to the stadium. They are pumped and ready to take the field. The coaches gather the young men for one more bit of instruction and pep talk. The young men are jumping around like popcorn in a pop corn machine. The announcer screams out "It is football time in Red Bank.” The team runs through the crowd waiting on them. The crowd gives them high fives and pats on their backs. The first of the players hits the paper spirit sign like it was the enemy. The energy in the stadium bursts out like an out of control freight train. The team crosses the field with unimagined energy and spark. They jump on each other and build the crowd up for yet another burst of cheering "We are Red Bank!" I just heard the sad news of Red Bank High School's great Victor Ellis' passing away. My heart sank. I am an avid Red Bank High School supporter and proud alumni. I am proud to say that I remember the many games that Victor helped Red Bank dominate local high school football. His love for football and life speaks volume. He played like he was a superman. Last season, he came back to the Lion’s den for a football game. Everyone knew about his cancer. They drove him around the field and everyone stood up for him and cheered. It was overwhelming show of appreciation and love that the community showed Victor. My prayers go out to his family, friends, teammates at RBHS and at Alabama, and the community of Red Bank. Thank you Victor for being a positive hero to the community of Red Bank and a glowing star for your old high school of RBHS. You will be missed. Laura Crane Red Bank ToBSketching@aol.com |
