Bradley County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Is April 5
posted March 26, 2008

It's time again for area residents to make this year's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day part of their spring cleaning activities.

The household toxic roundup is slated for April 5, at the Bradley County Landfill from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event is free to the public and available to all Bradley County residents as well as residents in neighboring counties. There is no weight limit, but the event is limited to residential wastes only.

The collection program is tailored to relieve homeowners of all of their household toxics including paints, solvents, cleaners, pesticides, automotive fluids, aerosols, old computers, television sets and fluorescent light bulbs. Wastes should be transported to the event in sturdy, tightly closed containers, preferably in their original packaging. Care must be taken to prevent liquids and corrosives from mixing together.

The one-day event is provided and funded by the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Santek Environmental, Inc., the Bradley County Government and Cleveland/Bradley Keep America Beautiful Systems, and Cleveland Utilities which distributed more than 33,000 fliers through their monthly billing system.

TDEC representatives will be on site during the event to ensure wastes are properly packaged for transportation to a hazardous waste disposal facility. No unknown wastes will be accepted. Other unacceptable wastes include medical wastes, explosives, ammunition, radioactive compounds, and commercial and agribusiness wastes.

The Bradley County Landfill is located in the McDonald community off Nature's Trail, formerly known as Pleasant Grove Road.

For more information or to get a free pamphlet about the event, contact Cheryl Dunson at 476-9160 or Joanne Maskew at 559-3307.
