Shulman Checking Out TCU Job, But Says He Is "Very Happy In Chattanooga"
posted March 27, 2008

UTC head men's basketball coach John Shulman met with Texas Christian University officials on Tuesday about the Horned Frogs men’s basketball head coaching position.

Coach Shulman said Thursday, “I am very happy at Chattanooga. I love the school. I love my job. I love our kids. I love the city.

"Danny Morrison gave me my first job out of college. If Danny Morrison calls and wants to talk, out of respect to him, I am going to talk.”

On the discussion happening in Fort Worth, he said, “Danny Morrison is in Fort Worth. That’s where he wanted to talk.”

Shulman and TCU athletic director Morrison were at Wofford College at the same time.

Morrison, who also served as commissioner of the Southern Conference, was the athletic director at Wofford, while Shulman was an assistant basketball coach.

Shulman is 72-55 in four seasons at UTC.

TCU officials also met Tuesday with former University of Tennessee Coach Buzz Peterson, who is now the director of player personnel for the Charlotte Bobcats.

Also in for a visit was Scott Sutton, the head coach at Oral Roberts University for the past nine seasons.

It was announced last week that Neil Dougherty would not return to coach the Horned Frogs in the 2008-09 season.

Dougherty compiled a 75-108 (.410) record in six seasons with the Frogs. TCU was 14-16 overall and 6-10 in Mountain West Conference play this year. The Frogs' season came to a close Thursday with an 89-88 loss to UNLV in the quarterfinal round of the MWC Tournament.
