Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 Widening Project from 1.1 miles south of Lee Hwy. (SR-2/ U.S. 11) to 1.2 miles north of Lee Hwy. (SR-2/ U.S. 11). Work on this project continues. The contractor will have I-75 northbound and southbound lane closure on Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. Also, the contractor will have a lane closure Thursday, March 27, through Wednesday, April 2, on Lee Highway westbound (traveling toward Hunter Road) to install a new gas line from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Should traffic back up after 3 p.m., the contractor will move out of the way and allow traffic to flow freely. The affected section of Lee Highway includes the area from Mountain View/Hunter Road to past the I-75 North entrance ramp. One lane will be maintained at all times. The contractor has now completely removed the bridge over Wolftever Creek on Old Lee Highway. Old Lee Highway will remain closed until the new bridge and approaches are complete, which is now scheduled to take place by mid-June 2008. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained. Detours are posted. The rest area located at the end of the project on I-75 South is now closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2010. (Bell & Associates Construction/LF).

Shallowford Road Widening Project, From West of Mark Lane to West of Center Street Work on this project continues. The contractor will have flagging operations in place beginning at 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day in order to route traffic around construction activity. Construction of storm drain pipe continues on Lee Highway south of Shallowford Road. The contractor will have westbound lane closures on Shallowford Road from Center Street to Lee Highway beginning from 8:30 a.m. -6 p.m. throughout this report period, with exception of Saturday, when the closure will be in place from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. The right turn lane (southbound) on Lee Highway at the SunTrust Bank corner will be closed beginning Thursday, March 20 in accordance with traffic control plan phase 1 for widening, structure placement and curb installation. The lane will be blocked off with portable barrier rail for the duration of this phase. Traffic shifts will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activity. Please be advised and take caution when traveling through this area. Motorists are also cautioned to observe the 35-m.p.h. speed limit throughout the construction zone. Due to constant speeding in this area, both state troopers and local police have increased enforcement. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and to stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is October 2008. (Greenstar, LLC/LF).

Ashland Terrace Widening Project, From Knollwood Drive to West of Norcross Road Work on this project continues. Daily flagging operations will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activities beginning from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Occasional lane closures may be needed to allow the contractor to safely relocate utilities and install drainage structures. The contractor will close Knollwood Drive, Forrest Highland Drive and Chumley Lane for the report period. Detours will be posted. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions and find alternative routes. Estimated completion date is December 2008. (Talley Construction Co., Inc./CG).
