Thomas, Whittenburg Pefect As Ooltewah Lady Owls Remain Perfect
by special report to The Chattanoogan
posted March 27, 2008

It was a perfect Thursday for Ooltewah’s Holly Thomas and Lexie Whittenburg.

And at the same time, the Lady Owls remained perfect for the 2008 season at 10-0.

Thomas pitched a perfect game as Ooltewah rolled past Baylor, 16-0, at Baylor in a high school softball game.

Whittenburg was also perfect, as in 4-for-4 with a home run and seven RBI.

“It was a hitting parade,’’ Ooltewah coach Norma Nelson said. “You never expect to go to Baylor and do that. They didn’t have their No. 1 pitcher, but you still don’t expect to do that on Baylor’s field.’’

Thomas struck out three in the four-inning game.

“Our defense played really well,’’ Thomas said.

Kaitlin Neil also had a big day for the Lady Owls, going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Kristin Whitmire and Bri Shoemake were each 3-for-4.

Jessica Cherkak was 2-for-2 for Ooltewah and Thomas was 1-for-2. Thomas is 7-0 for the season from the mound.

“We’re playing really well,’’ Nelson said. “We’re going to Murfreesboro for the Worth Tournament this weekend. We’ll find out over there just how good we really are.’’
