Capt. Jeannie Snyder No Longer Carrying Weapon posted March 28, 2008 Jeannie Snyder, the first female assistant police chief at the Chattanooga Police Department who later accepted a voluntary demotion, is no longer carrying a service weapon, the mayor's office confirmed. Richard Beeland, assistant to Mayor Ron Littlefield, said she turned it in shortly after an incident in Atlanta in early February. He said she did so "in response to public concern." Capt. Snyder was taken to a hospital after she appeared drunk at a mall near Atlanta. Personnel checking her out said she had a gun in her handbag. She was not charged in that incident, and several top-ranking city police officials along with her husband went to bring her home. Mr. Beeland said she is now over grants, special projects and accreditation. Just after she had been named to the high-ranking post, Ms. Snyder was rushed to Erlanger Medical Center after she was found unconscious at her home. No explanation was given on that incident. Then there was a widespread search for her in Marion County after she did not show up for work on Sept. 26. Late that night, she walked out of woods near some family property. The second incident was described as "a toxic reaction to prescribed medication." After that, she took the voluntary demotion to captain and her pay was reduced from $73,155 to $63,279. |
