Curators will be on hand to interact with the wolves, share the story of how the species neared extinction and discuss the wolves’ journey to Chattanooga. Visitors will also see the pups partake in the traditional eating of a birthday cake created by Chattanooga’s Bone Appetit Bakery.
“The Chattanooga Nature Center is very fortunate to have a family of Red Wolves staying with us. The wolves are a significant icon for our region because the southeastern United States was once home for these animals,” said Jean Lomino, PhD, CNC Executive Director. “We invite everyone to come out and celebrate this special occasion with us and learn more about this amazing species that is part of our natural heritage,” added Lomino.
The Red Wolf pups, born April 3, 2007, are the offspring of a five-year old male and four-year old female who came to CNC at the end of 2006.
As part of the celebration, the CNC will host an Open House Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. Special wolf-related treats will be available in the gift shop, and a special $10 membership discount will be offered during the two-day event.
