On May 9th and 10th Siskin Hospital and the First Swing program will be offering a free Adaptive Golf Clinic at Moccasin Bend Golf Club.

The First Swing program was designed to instruct therapists and other rehabilitation team professionals to teach and encourage people with disabilities to learn or re-learn the game of golf.

Golf offers many possibilities to all ages and all ability levels. Golf can contribute dramatically to an individual’s emotional and physical well being, instilling self-confidence and pride in personal achievement. It is also a lot of fun.

Siskin Hospital is pleased to have Bob Wilson, a double below the knee amputee, from the First Swing program, to host the 2-day clinic for adaptive golf. Wilson is a PGA recognized National Amputee Golf Association Certified Instructor.

Siskin Hospital is excited to present this free clinic to those in the Chattanooga community. Siskin Hospital’s Adaptive Sports Program is designed for individuals with disabilities to be trained by professionals to learn or re-learn a sport, such as golf, tennis, or basketball.

During the first half of day one, the free clinic will be held at Siskin Hospital. This day will be dedicated to teaching professionals, including therapists and golf pro’s, the basics of training individuals with disabilities. The afternoon will be spent at Moccasin Bend Golf Club, where professionals will learn hands-on instruction on how to teach the correct grip, stance/balance, swing, and how to work with the adaptive equipment. Healthcare professionals can earn Continuing Educational Unit (CEU) credits for $25. Golf Professionals can also earn the CEU credits for free, as part of the First Swing program.

The second day will be spent at Moccasin Bend Golf Club and is for professionals and individuals with a disability. This day will have a morning and an afternoon session. Hands-on instruction will be provided and will teach participants how to play the game of golf, regardless of a disability. Participants should bring comfortable clothes and golf clubs. For those who do not have their own clubs, they will be provided for the day, along with breakfast or lunch, drinks, and snacks.

Pre-registration is required. To sign up, please contact Lisa Morgan, Recreational Therapy at Siskin Hospital, by phone at 423-634-1674 or by email at Lmorgan@SiskinRehab.org. You may also visit Siskin Hospital’s website, www.SiskinRehab.org, for more information.
