Notre Dame's versatile Sam Eberle will sign a baseball scholarship in the near future with Jacksonville State University.
Eberle received the scholarship papers in the mail on Monday and will sign during a ceremony this week.
An all-state player in football, Eberle has played catcher, shortstop and third base this year for the Irish.
"I don't know where they'll play him at the next level, but I see him at third base,'' Notre Dame coach Brian Hitchcox said Monday. "He is such a goot hitter and such a good athlete that they will find someplace to play him as a freshman.''
Eberle his hitting .488 for the Irish with 12 home rns and 54 RBI.
"Sam used to try to pull everything, but this year he has been going with the pitches,'' Hitchcox said. "He has three home runs to right field, five to center field and the other pulled to left.
"He is so strong and hits the ball so well.''
