East Ridge Surprises Bledsoe County In 6-AA Tournament, 13-11
Top-seeded Hixson Rolls Past Host Marion

JASPER, Tenn. -- After losing its starting pitcher at the end of the regular season, it was supposed to be two and out for East Ridge in the District 6-AAA high school fastpitch softball tournament.

On Monday night at the Jasper City Complex, however, the Lady Pioneers surprised Bledsoe County, 13-11, with a four-run rally in the top of the seventh.

"It was a miracle,'' East Ridge coach Sandy Mauser said. "I'm so proud of this team for battling back and winning this game.''

In the other losers bracket game Monday, Grundy County beat Notre Dame, 2-1.

In the winners bracket, top-seeded Hixson rolled past Marion County, 12-0, and Chattanooga Christian beat Sequatchie County, 10-4.

Tuesday's schedule (All times eastern): 5:30 -- Marion County vs. East Ridge; Notre Dame vs. Sequatchie; 7:30--Hixson vs. CCS; Marion-East Ridge winner vs. Sequatchie-Notre Dame winner.

EAST RIDGE 13, BLEDSOE 11: Daisha Goff was 5-for-5 with five RBI for East Ridge, including the game-winning hit in the top of the seventh. She had a triple, three doubles and a single.

"Daisha had an awesome game,'' Mauser said.

Kelli Crawford ws 4-for-5 for East Ridge with a triple, double and two RBI.

East Ridge had 16 hits.

"We were down the entire game, so it was great to come back and get the win,'' Mauser said.

East Ridge catcher Paige Atterton was taken to the hospital after passing out during the game.

HIXSON 12, MARION COUNTY 0: Dawon Millwood allowed only three hits and struck out six while improving to 15-3.

Whitney Galloway was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI for Hixson (16-4) while Brittany Roberts and Jenevieve Cena were each 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Emily Quarles added a double for Hixson.

CCS 10, SEQUATCHIE 4: Tiffany Johnson had two doubles and two RBI for CCS. Laura Curtis homered for the Lady Chargers while Jennifer O'Dell and Marie Beaty had two hits each. Chelsea Sims added two RBI.

Winning pitcher Jennifer Long struck out seven.
