Meigs Students Head For National Archery Championship
posted May 6, 2008

Meigs County Elementary School will be represented in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) National Championships to be held May 10 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.

Meigs County qualified for the national tournament as a result of its impressive performance recently in the Elementary School Division of the Second Annual Tennessee NASP State Championships. Meigs captured the state championship in the Elementary School Division. The championships were held at Tennessee Tech University’s Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion.

Meigs County rolled to its victory by sweeping the first and second spots in both the male and female categories in the individual portion of the Elementary School Divison. Kristin Ferry and Taylor Harris were the top two females while Cory Jarvis and Dillon Crisp were the top males. Also helping their team to the victory and earning a medal were Kenzley Scott and Sean Masters, who were fifth in the female and male categories, respectively.

The Meigs County High team took third place in the High School Division. Ryan Fransisco posted the fourth highest score by a male participant in the division.

NASP is a joint venture between state divisions of education and wildlife. Several archery equipment manufacturers and organizations are also partners. The program promotes student education, physical education and participation in the life long sport of archery. Tennessee began NASP in late 2004 with 12 pilot schools participating in the program. More than 60 schools now participate in the program. NASP is a two-week curriculum taught during school hours.
