An attorney said the arrest of a third shift supervisor for Hamilton County Community Corrections on a Texas warrant "is a miscarriage of justice."
Attorney Stan Lanzo said Jeffrey R. Elder has a clean record and "had no knowledge" of the alleged credit card fraud.
In court on Wednesday morning, a former employee of the local Convergys call center acknowledged that she used a customer's credit card number to pay off phone bills for her sister, Tameka Burney, and for the daughter of Elder. She said the total amount for the two bills was over $500.
Amanda Burney was taken into custody after the admission before General Sessions Court Judge David Bales. Prosecutor Rodney Strong asked that she be held on $500,000 bond.
Judge Bales allowed Elder to go free on an OR bond.
He is due back in court before Judge Bales on Thursday morning when Texas detectives are expected here.
Attorney Lanzo said, "I hope tomorrow they will have enough sense to drop the charges against Jeffrey Elder."
He said Elder was unaware that his daughter's phone bill had been paid using the stolen credit card information.
The attorney said Elder has been in jail since he was arrested at his home on Hunter Village Drive a week ago.
He was charged with a fugitive warrant out of Enfield, Tex.
He is on paid leave from his county job.
Judge Bales set a $3,500 bond for Tameka Burney.
