Millwood Strikes Out 11 As Hixson Takes 6-AA Softball Title Over CCS by special report to The Chattanoogan posted May 7, 2008 JASPER, Tenn. -- Hixson's quest for a berth in the Class AA state softball tournament continued Wednesday night at the Jasper City Complex. Dawon Millwood allowed only five hits while striking out 11 and walking four as Hixson claimed the District 6-AA softball championship with a 3-2 victory over Chattanooga Christian. CCS defeated Sequatchie County, 7-4, in the losers bracket final earlier in the night. In the championship game, Hixson took a 3-0 lead with runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the top of the seventh, CCS's Jennifer O'Dell hit a two-run home run to pull the Lady Chargers within 3-2, but Millwood came through and gave the title to Hixson. Hixson took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Whitney Galloway singled, Jenevieve Cena singled and Lauren Bray came through with an RBI single. In the Hixson fifth, Emily Quarles reached on a error, was sacrificed by Taylor Lanham and Quarles scored on an RBI bunt by Ruth Blowe. In the sixth, Galloway walked, Millwood reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on an RBI double by Bray. Hixson improved to 17-4 and will play host to the District 5-AA runner-up on Monday.
