Midweek High School Baseball, Softball Updates

Some districts are done, some are still playing. As a high school baseball and softball fan, it's hard follow the double elimination tournaments, loser's bracket finals, winner's bracket finals and so on.

We made it through hump day and here is where we stand. All of this is weather permitting of course which could push games to Friday which is the last day to complete district tournaments.


Baseball

District 5-A
Silverdale and Grace meet on Thursday in the championship game at Engel Stadium. The teams split in the regular season. The game is set for 4:30 p.m. Grace beat Temple 8-7 and David Brainerd 13-6 on Tuesday to advance to the championship game.

District 6-A
Lookout Valley continued it's district dominance winning yet another district championship with an 11-3 win over CSAS. Both teams will advance to the region to face either Silverdale or Grace.

District 5-AA
McMinn County defeated Polk County 7-3 for the District 5-AA championship. McMinn Central scored all seven of their runs in the fifth inning.

District 6-AA
Marion County jumped all over Hixson in the District 6-AA championship game at Hixson. Marion scored six runs in the fourth inning to take a comanding 12-0 lead and win. Hixson will have to travel to District 5-AA champion McMinn Central and Marion County will host Polk County.

District 5-AAA
At Cleveland, Bradley Central scored four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to beat McMinn County 13-3. Bradley Central pounded out 11 hits. McMinn County will travel to District 6-AAA winner Red Bank on Monday and Bradley Central will host Ooltewah.

District 6-AAA
Red Bank made an incredible comeback on Tuesday to beat Ooltewah 13-12 in the championship game after both teams won best of three series in the semifinal round.

Division II
Baylor won the best of three series with McCallie by beating them 5-1 on Wednesday at Baylor. Baylor limited McCallie to just four hits. Andy Shuford and Seth Stone had homeruns for Baylor. Both teams play in region games on Saturday at McCallie.

Softball

District 5-A
At the Tyner ball fields, Silverdale scored 10 runs in the second inning and went on to beat David Brainerd 12-2.

District 6-A
Sale Creek ended CSAS's season last night at Whitwell with a 15-0 win in the loser's bracket final. Sale Creek will play Whitwell Thursday afternoon in the championship game.

District 5-AA
In the loser's bracket final at Boyd-Buchanan Meigs County advanced to the championship game with a 9-3 win over the Lady Bucs. Meigs County will face Sweetwater in the championship.

District 6-AA
At the Jasper City Complex, CCS beat Sequatchie 7-4 in the loser's bracket final and then played Hixson in the championship. Hixson scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to take the win 3-2. Jennifer O'Dell's two run homerun in the seventh ended the scoring for CCS. Both team will await the winner or loser of Meigs County and Sweetwater.

District 5-AAA
At McMinn County, Rhea County got the game winning hit in the fifth inning which scored the games only run. Rhea beat Bradley Central 1-0. Rhea will host the loser of Ooltewah and Soddy-Daisy and Bradley Central will travel to the winner.

District 6-AAA
At Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy had 11 hits in their 7-0 loser's bracket final win over Central. Soddy-Daisy advances to play Ooltewah in the championship game on Thursday. Ooltewah sent the Lady Trojans to the loser's bracket on Tuesday with an exciting 11 inning win.

Division II
GPS beat Baylor on Tuesday to win the district title. Both teams will be in region action this weekend.
