Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 Widening Project from 1.1 miles south of Lee Hwy. (SR-2/ U.S. 11) to 1.2 miles north of Lee Hwy. (SR-2/ U.S. 11). Work on this project continues. Here is the major work for this week:

The contractor will have I-75 northbound and southbound lane closure on Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning to set new barrier rail and realign existing barrier rail. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

The contractor will have lane closures on the Exit 11 off ramp from I-75 North on Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning to set new barrier rail and realign existing barrier rail. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

The contractor will have a lane closure Thursday, May 8, through Wednesday, May 14, on Lee Highway westbound from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day to install new gas lines. Should this work cause traffic back ups after 3 p.m., the contractor will move out of the way and allow traffic to flow freely.

The contractor will have lane closures on Hilltop Road and Hunter Road beginning Thursday, May 8, through Wednesday, May 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. to install new utilities. The lane closure will begin at 8:30 a.m. and extend until 7 p.m. However, the contractor must move off the roadway from 2:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. each day during the shift change at Miller Industries.

The contractor has now completely removed the bridge over Wolftever Creek on Old Lee Highway. Old Lee Highway in this area will remain closed until the new bridge and approaches are complete, which is now scheduled to take place by mid-June 2008. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained. Detours are posted. The rest area located at the end of the project on I-75 South is now closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2010. (Bell & Associates Construction/LF).

I-24 Bridge Repainting (mm 181.0 to 183.0) Work on this project is underway. The contractor will have lane closures on I-24 West as scheduled below:

Monday, May 12
I-24 WB from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Left Lane Closed

Tuesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14
I-24 WB from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Right Lane Closed
I-24 WB from 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Right and Center Lanes Closed

The contractor will also have lane closure on the bridges over I-24 in order to perform the painting operation throughout this report period. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July 2008 (Seminole Equipment, Inc./ LF).

Shallowford Road Widening Project, From West of Mark Lane to West of Center Street Work on this project continues. The contractor will have flagging operations in place beginning at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day in order to route traffic around construction activity. The right turn lane (southbound) on Lee Highway at the SunTrust Bank corner is closed to accommodate Phase 1 construction. The lane will be blocked off with portable barrier rail for the duration of this phase. Traffic shifts have been set in place to route traffic around construction activities in some areas. Please be advised and take caution when traveling through this area. Motorists are also cautioned to observe the 35-m.p.h. speed limit throughout the construction zone. Due problems with speeding in this area, both state troopers and local police have increased enforcement. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and to stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is October 2008. (Greenstar, LLC/LF).

Ashland Terrace Widening Project, From Knollwood Drive to West of Norcross Road Work on this project continues. Daily flagging operations will be set in place in order to route traffic around construction activities beginning from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional lane closures may be needed to allow the contractor to safely relocate utilities and install drainage structures. The contractor will close Highland Drive and Crestview Lane for the report period. Detours will be posted. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions and find alternative routes. Estimated completion date is December 2008. (Talley Construction Co., Inc./CG).

Maintenance of Closed Circuit Camera System on various Interstate and State Routes in Chattanooga The contractor will be working throughout the Chattanooga area on various interstate and state routes to perform maintenance on the closed circuit television system for the monitoring of traffic. The contractor will implement short-term lane closures at the following locations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.:

SR-153 NB from mm 10.6 to mm 10.8, Right Lane Closed
SR-153 NB from mm 11.4 to mm 11.6, Right Lane Closed

Monday, May 12
I-75 SB from mm 1.5 to mm 1.3, Right Lane Closed
I-24 WB from mm 179.0 to mm 178.5, Right Lane Closed

Tuesday, May 13
I-24 EB from mm 180.1 to mm 180.3, Right Lane Closed
I-24 WB from mm 179.0 to mm 178.5, Right Lane Closed

Wednesday, May 14
SR-29 SB (US-27) from mm 3.5 to mm 3.2, Right Lane Closed
SR-29 SB (US-27) from mm 0.9 to mm 0.7, Right Lane Closed
