Moylan was one of Atlanta's best setup men before the injury.
ATLANTA -- Peter Moylan underwent Tommy John elbow ligament transplant surgery and is hopeful that he'll be able to return around this time next year.

Dr. James Andrews, in Birmingham, Ala. on Thursday, confirmed that a bone spur had lodged into Moylan's ligament and compromised it to the point that rehab was definitely not an option.

Moylan tossed a perfect ninth inning to record a save against the Nationals on April 11 and then awoke the next morning with severe discomfort in his elbow. Two days later, Andrews advised him that this season-ending surgical procedure was a possibility.

Although he made some progress while throwing on flat ground last week, Moylan was able to throw just seven pitches when he attempted to throw off a mound on Saturday.
