County Schools Could Face Further Cuts State Shortfall May Eliminate $3.8 Million In BEP Funds posted May 9, 2008 The Hamilton County Schools, after already cutting 98 positions, could face further cuts. Rep. Gerald McCormick said Friday that the county schools likely will not get the expected $3.8 million in BEP funds because of the state's dire fiscal situation. Tommy Kranz, county school finance director, said the county is still awaiting official word on state funding. Gov. Phil Bredesen is to make a budget presentation to the General Assembly on Monday. Mr. Kranz said specific plans have not been worked up for a second round of budget reductions. Rep. McCormick and Mr. Kranz spoke on WGOW Radio on the morning show that was guest hosted by David Carroll of Channel 3. |
