Megan Wagner pitched a three-hitter and Kamri Chester drove in five runs as GPS defeated John Paul II, 10-0, in a Division II softball game Saturday at GPS.
The victory gave GPS (24-4) the No. 1 seeding from the East/Middle for next week's state sectionals.
The Bruisers will play host to Battle Ground Academy in a best-of-three series scheduled for Friday and if-necessary Saturday.
The winner will earn one of four berths in the BlueCross Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.
Wagner struck out three in the six-inning game.
Chester was 2-for-3 with five RBI. She hit a two-run single in the third and a three-run home run in the fourth.
Jessica Phillips was 2-for-4 with a two-run single and a two-run home run that ended the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Tory Lewis was 3-for-4 and scored three times while Whitney Hammond was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Megan Givens was 2-for-3, scored two runs and stole two bases.
"It was a good day,'' GPS coach Susan Crownover said. "Megan pitched well, we hit well and we made two outstanding defensive plays -- one by Whitney Hammond in left field and one by Tory Lewis at shortstop.
"It was good win because it's huge getting to stay home next week.''
