Top Seeds Advance in D-II Tennis Region Play

The four top seeds in both boys and girls singles and doubles advanced to today’s semifinals in the TSSAA Division II Middle/East Individual Region tournament held at Baylor. The semifinal matches are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., with the finals at 1:30 p.m.

McCallie’s David Henry didn’t lose a game in winning round of 16 and quarterfinal matches. No. 2 seed Brandon Fickey (Webb) also advanced to the semis. Fickey faces McCallie’s J.P. McLemore.

In doubles, McCallie top seed Wes Nelson-Chris Schlabach faces Baylor’s No. 3 Orlando Lourenco and McGregor Wallis in one semis match. No. 2 seed Alex Rudd-Forrest Edwards (Webb) faces No. 4 Thomas Fanjoy-Roger Briggs of McCallie in the other semifinal.

In the girls brackets, the two top seeds – No. 1Gabriela Rangel (Pope John Paul II) and No. 2 Claire Bartlett (GPS) – advanced to the semis. Rangel takes on No. 4 Sarah Evans (GPS, while Bartlett faces No. 3 Anne Marie Herbold (BGA).

In doubles, top seeded Guinn and Vicki Garcia (Webb) and second seeded Currant Scruggs-Katie Thornton (Baylor) both reached the semis.

Unseeded Erika Marschall and Kelly Scruggs of Baylor knocked off two seeded teams (Nos. 6 and 3) to reach this morning’s semis against the Garcias.
