Jim Hammond Enjoys Wide Support posted May 11, 2008 Over two years ago while serving as vice-chairman of the Republican Party; I was there when Jim Hammond declared his allegiance to the Republican Party. He joined the Pachyderm Club, and made a contribution to the party. He spoke from his heart and became a Republican. At the time he was not seeking public office. If it had not been for the unfortunate circumstances that provided an opportunity to serve, Jim Hammond may have never run for public office. The Hamilton County sheriff’s race is just now getting underway. Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership of Hamilton County has decided their best strategy is to run a negative campaign. That same leadership has become so negative they often forget to mention the name of their own candidate. A campaign that starts out negative is not only a losing one, but also a campaign with no positive program. They appear to be prepared to demonize their own in order to create what they believe is an atmosphere of guilt through association. The headquarters opening for Jim Hammond was held May 8 and over 500 people attended. Quite honestly there were as many Democrats as Republicans at the gathering. This by no means downplays the strong support by Hamilton County Republicans. The sheriff’s race is not about Billy Long, but about the most qualified, professional, trustworthy and the best leader. Jim Hammond’s education, years of service in the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, and his international training by far makes him the most trustworthy and qualified. The Democratic leadership may call Jim Hammond a “mugwamp” but with the broad support I see for Jim Hammond on Aug. 7 we will call him “sheriff”.
