Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy Advance To Region 3-AAA Softball Championship
Owls Beat Bradley; Lady Trojans Win At Rhea

It will be Soddy-Daisy vs. Ooltewah in “Game Five.’’

The Lady Trojans and Lady Owls each advanced with semifinal victories in the Region 3-AAA high school fastpitch softball tournament on Monday.

At Ooltewah, the nationally ranked Lady Owls defeated Bradley Central, 10-0, while Soddy-Daisy traveled to Rhea County and defeated the Lady Golden Eagles, 4-0.

Soddy-Daisy will play at Ooltewah at 7 p.m. Wednesday night for the region championship.

Ooltewah, which before this season had not beaten Soddy-Daisy in eight years, is 3-1 against the Lady Trojans this year with three straight wins.

The region champion will play host to a state sectional on Friday night with the region runner-up traveling to middle Tennessee.

Ooltewah, 40-3-1, was ranked No. 24 in the Rivals.com Fab 50 National Softball Rankings last week.

OOLTEWAH 0, BRADLEY CENTRAL 0: Senior Holly Thomas fired a one-hitter for Ooltewah, striking out six and walking none.

Kristin Whitmire was the hitting star for Ooltewah with a 3-for-4 effort that included two doubles, two runs scored and two solen bases.

Kaitlin Neil was 2-for-4 for the Lady Owls with four RBI and Thomas added an RBI double. Sara Kelley was 2-for-3.

With one hit each for Ooltewah were Jessica Chernak, Bri Shoemake, Lexie Whitenburg, Linley Gannon and Tabitha Farrow.

Shoemake and Whitenburg each had an RBI and Chernak had one stolen base.

SODDY-DAISY 4, RHEA CO. 0: At Evensville, Alesha Buckner was sensational for the Lady Trojans (25-13-1). The junior right-hander gave up only one hit, struck out 13, walked one and hit one.

Soddy-Daisy had eight hits off Rhea County’s Katie Freels, who struck out five.

The Soddy-Daisy win avenged a loss on March 22 to Rhea County.

Jena Hale was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Soddy-Daisy while Whitney Johnson had a two-run single.

Brooke Ward added a double for Soddy-Daisy while Alex Everette, Ashlee England, Brandi Lasley and Kali Henderson had singles.
