Coach Phillips was happy with his team's timing Monday night, as his Lady Panthers pulled out a 3-2 win over their hosts, Grace Baptist in the Region 3-A semifinals.
Sale Creek's Leslie Stephens' bat was hot. She was 2-3 and had three RBI's for Sale Creek. She singled in the fifth to score Sale Creek's first run and tie the game 1-1. Her single in the bottom of the seventh scored two runs to give the Lady Panthers a 3-1 lead.
Grace's Lacye Walker hit a homerun with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but she was the only runner to cross home plate as Sale Creek's senior pitcher Brittney Tipton retired the next two batters to end the game.
Ashley Malone also hit well for Sale Creek, she was was 3-4 on the night.
"We hit the ball well, and what we hadn't been doing was getting timely hits with runners on base," said Coach Phillips. Brittney pitched a heck of a game. We knew they had some good hitters coming up in the bottom of the seventh and she buckled down when she needed to."
Kaitlyn Eldridge and Cheriah Gordon both had two hits for Grace.
Sale Creek will advance to Wednesday's Region 3A championship game against Whitwell who defeated Silverdale 8-0 Monday night.
