Chattanooga Christian will be represented in boys' singles and doubles at next week's state tournament, while Boyd Buchanan in singles and Notre Dame in doubles will compete on the girls' side.

In today's A-AA Region 3 individual tournament at CCS, Will Reynolds (CCS) and Tarah Garner (Boyd Buc) posted straight set victories in the singles finals.

Reynolds defeated Tanner Stancil of Lookout Valley for the third time the season and Garner eased past Kris Cambron (Notre Dame), 6-1, 6-0.

"I am playing good tennis right now and I look forward to competing in the state next week," said Reynolds who is 9-1 on the season.

Garner, the District 5 champion, lost only one game in the semis and finals.

In girls' doubles, the Notre Dame duo of Jennifer Taylor and Jennifer Brouner improved to 11-0 on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 finals win against Albany and Kayla Kelly (CSAS).

Taylor and Brouner, in their first year of playing doubles together, were down 2-3 in the second set before winning the final four games and the match.

"We are excited to have won the district and region and let's see how we do next week (at state)," said Taylor, a junior.

"This is the first time in at least 12 years that Notre Dame has been to the state in singles or doubles so this is great for us," said Irish coach Anne Ricksecker.

In boys' doubles finals, Jonny Herberich-Andy Driggans of Chattanooga Christian defeated Chip Jabaley and Charlie Ponitz of Notre Dame, 6-2, 6-4.

No.1 Singles: Reynolds, a junior at CCS, has played No. 1 singles for the Chargers for three years with a record of 16-3 ... His three losses have been in the eighth grade to Charlie Ramsey (McCallie, now playing at Univ. of Memphis), in the ninth grade to Bo Seals (Baylor, now at a Fla. tennis academy) and this year to David Henry (McCallie and signee with Univ. of Memphis). Reynolds attended Chattanooga State middle college as a sophomore.

"I wanted to see how that would work and it did provide me with more time to play USTA tennis," said Reynolds. "But I am glad I came back to CCS this year. This is a good fit for me."
