Maddux became the ninth pitcher in big-league history to win 350 games, reaching the plateau in his fifth try and leading the San Diego Padres to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.

The 42-year-old Maddux (3-3) improved to 350-217 in 23 big league seasons.

Maddux has four NL Cy Young Awards, one World Series championship and a record 17 Gold Glove Awards.

Realistically, Maddux should pass Roger Clemens (354) this year. Still within reach are Kid Nichols (361), Warren Spahn (363), and Pud Gavin (364). Beyond that are Pete Alexander and Christy Mathewson (373). Beyond reach are Walter Johnson (417) and Cy Young (511).

True to his self-effacing demeanor and team-focus, Maddux had this to say following the win: "It was kind of cool. I don't want to make it out to be nothing, but it is May and we haven't been playing that good, and you just really want to win for the right reason and not necessarily for the wrong reason. We need to start winning as a team and hopefully tonight is the start of things to come."

Could we see Maddux in a Braves uniform again? In case you haven't heard, there is speculation that the Braves might be interested in signing him in July IF the Padres are out of the race (they have the worst record in baseball now) and IF Atlanta is in the race and believe Maddux could help them. This is a very unlikely scenario.
