VOLS TRAVEL TO NCAA CENTRAL REGIONAL The Tennessee men's golf team makes the programs ninth straight trip to the postseason when the NCAA Central Regional begins Thursday at the Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio. The regional runs through Saturday and is hosted by Ohio State University. The Vols enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed with an overall record of 105-37-3 (.734) and an SEC record of 18-15 (.545). Tennessees probable lineup is David Holmes, Robin Wingardh, Charlie Ford, Philip Pettitt and Chris Paisley. Holmes recorded a career best sixth-place finish at the 2008 SEC Championships. The sophomore finished with a 54-hole total of 1-under-par 215. His previous best finish was a tie for 10th at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate last Nov. 7. Holmes leads the Vols with a 72.52 scoring average and has finished in the top 25 in six of his eight tournaments this season. Wingardh recently was named to the 2008 SEC Mens Golf All-Freshman Team after a very successful freshman campaign that included playing in all 10 events for Tennessee and earning two top-10 finishes along the way. He has a scoring average of 73.07 and nine rounds of par or better heading into the regional. Ford has been named to the European Team for the 2008 Palmer Cup to be played June 26-27. The senior has two top-10 finishes this season and ranks fourth on the team with a 72.90 scoring average. His top finish was a tie for first at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate, where his 54-hole total of 200 set a UT record for 54 holes. Pettitt ranks third on the team with a 72.72 scoring average and has a team-high 14 rounds of par or better this season. The Murfreesboro native has competed in all 10 tournaments for the Vols this season, his top finish a tie for 12th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges. As a junior, Paisley has shined with four top-10 finishes this season along with a 72.59 scoring average that ranks second on the team. Paisley earned medalist honors at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate last October. Since then, he tied for fifth at Turtle Bay, tied for second at the PING/Arizona Intercollegiate and tied for third at the USC Collegiate Invitational. At last year's NCAA Central Regional in Sugar Grove, Ill., the Volunteers fired a 314-289-301--904 on their way to a fifth-place finish. It was the Vols third top-five regional finish under head coach Jim Kelson and the first time since 2005 they qualified for the NCAA Championships. Ford was the top finisher for the Vols, firing a 223 to finish ninth. Paisley tied for 21st at 10 over par for the tournament. The top 10 teams from each of the three regionals, plus the top two individuals whose team is not among the top 10, qualify for the NCAA Championships, set for May 28-31 on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
