Lookout Valley Whips CSAS For Region 3-A Title
Rorex, Reagan Combine On No-Hitter In 12-1 Victory

The Lookout Valley Jackets didn’t waste any time taking care of business Tuesday night in the Region 3-A championship game.

Taking just one hour and nine minutes to accomplish their mission, the Jackets claimed the region title again with a methodical 12-1 victory over the CSAS Patriots at Janice Boydston Field.

Lance Rorex and Corey Reagan combined on a five-inning no-hitter while Reagan, Brandon O’Dell and Casey Marr provided plenty of offense with five home runs between them.

Lookout Valley is now 33-5 and will host the loser of Friendship Christian and Monterey on Friday.

Arts & Sciences is now 19-17 and will be on the road Friday to face the Friendship-Monterey winner with hopes of earning a state tournament berth next week in Murfreesboro.

It was business as usual for Lookout Valley and coach David Dinger, although playing the Patriots for the fifth time this year caused a little concern for the coach.

“We exploded with some power tonight. Pudge (Corey Reagan) got the big one early. That was an important blow, but I thought we played well.

"We still have places where we can get better, but the big one will be Friday. The good news is that we’ll be playing right here,” Dinger said moments after the game ended.

“Arts and Sciences has a fine team. I think we’ve played them five times this year and we’ve been fortunate to win them all. They have a fine bunch of kids.

“We put nine guys out there who are pretty tough outs. We have nine who can contribute, so we don’t have to rely on one or two players every game. But I thought we played well. Hopefully, we can keep winning,” Dinger added.

CSAS coach Greg Grall didn’t seem to be too down following the loss.

“We had to do a lot of things right in order to win and we didn’t. We weren’t in a situation where we had to put all of our eggs in one basket like we did Monday against Grace.

"We still get to play again on Friday. There are a lot of teams wishing they could say that," he continued.

“The home field advantage really isn’t a home field advantage for us. We play as well on the road as we do anywhere,” Grall added.

Rorex and Tyler Crowley both walked to lead off Lookout Valley’s half of the first inning and both scored on a towering three-run homer off Reagan’s bat that easily cleared the fence in dead center.

Cody Brooks walked and eventually scored on a passed ball while Ian McDade reached on a throwing error and he also scored on a wild pitch as the Jackets batted around in the first and took a commanding 5-0 lead during that time.

Crowley doubled off the fence in center in the second, but CSAS starter Ron Walters got the next two hitters without incident to leave Crowley stranded.

O’Dell and Marr hit back-to-back homers in the third to end Walters’ night, but the Jackets batted around again and scored five more runs with Jon Barry getting an RBI-single, Rorex an RBI on a groundout and Crowley driving in the last one with a single.

The Patriots scored their only run in the fourth.

Zach Phillips led off with his second walk of the game and stole second. He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a groundout to second by Cameron Kapperman.

Rorex got the final out on a pop to second to escape any further damage.

O’Dell and Marr hit back-to-back homers again in the fourth to account for Lookout Valley’s final two runs.

Rorex was the winner after pitching four innings. He walked two and struck out three. Reagan pitched the final inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The Jackets finished with a dozen runs on eight hits and one error.

Crowley, O’Dell and Marr all had two hits apiece while Barry had his RBI-single and Reagan the big three-run homer.

Phillips reached twice on walks for CSAS while James “Turtle” Dickson reached twice, the first time on an error in the first and the second time when he got nipped by a pitch in the fifth.
