posted May 13, 2008

The CSAS Patriots and Boyd-Buchanan Bucaneers sent shock waves through Class A/AA soccer with two big overtime upsets on Tuesday.

CSAS traveled to CCS and beat the third ranked Chargers 2-1 in overtime. CCS had beaten the Patriots 5-1 earlier this year.

The Bucs used an double overtime goal at home to beat ninth ranked Notre Dame.

Boyd-Buchanan opened the scoring with a goal by Blake Griffith in the first half.

Notre Dame tied the match with a Matthew Keeney goal in the second half.

The game went into the second overtime and Taylor Shull found the game winner after a throw in and flick by Boyd-Buchanan. Shull finished off the shot with less than a minute left for the win.

Last week's district championship was the first for Boyd-Buchanan since 2000 and this will be the first region appearance since then as well.

CSAS will travel to Boyd-Buchanan on Thursday for a 7 p.m. region championship. The teams will be playing for home field advantage in sectional games that will take place on Saturday. Winners of sectional games will advance to the Class A/AA state tournament which begins next Wednesday in Murfreesboro.
