Linda Joyce Hood testified Wednesday that her sister, Donetta Renee Yates, stabbed her repeatedly while vowing to kill her after Ms. Hood refused to give her money.
General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon bound charges of attempted first-degree murder against Donetta Renee Yates to the Grand Jury.
He set her bond at $500,000 and also revoked her bond on a previous assault case on which she was on probation.
Ms. Hood was stabbed approximately 20 times at 725 W Main Street Court on May 4.
According to family members, Ms. Yates has been frequenting Ms. Hood's home for the previous few days asking for money.
Chattanooga Police received a frantic call from Ms. Hood around 3:20 p.m. on the day of the incident saying that she had been cut multiple times by her sister with a butcher’s knife.
Once on the scene, police found Ms. Hood suffering from lacerations to her legs, arms and neck.
She was initially in critical condition at Erlanger Hospital.
Ms. Hood said she let her sister in after she said she wanted to apologize. She said they sat together and talked, then she got up to change the TV. She said when she sat back down her sister suddenly rose and began stabbing her.
She said after she tumbled to the floor, her sister continued stabbing her in the leg.
She said she told her sister not to stab her arm, where she had an insulin pump, saying that would kill her. She said her sister then began stabbing her arm.
Ms. Hood said she managed to get back up and grab her sister's hand and the knife. She said she told her sister that if she killed her she was going to go to hell. She said her sister then stopped the attack and left.
Ms. Hood walked with a walker and was allowed to sit during her testimony.
