Chattanooga’s Live Music Scene: Sweet Georgia Sound by Bob Payne WWW.MYSPACE.COM/DAVRIK posted May 15, 2008
On a beautiful 70-degree day, my halcyon life was enriched by Sweet Georgia Sound, a splendid swing band that plays a bit of everything – swing, ballroom, Latin, a bit of pop, and big band music. I love the orchestra, especially the horns. My favorites are New York, New York, Blues Skies, and of course – Sweet Georgia Brown. They also have some fine vocal performances by a couple different singers. Sweet Georgia Sound will be playing at the Chattanooga Market on Sunday, May 25. You can see their entire schedule and hear audio samples on their website at www.sweetgeorgiasound.com. If you like music at all, I highly recommend seeing them live! After getting the opportunity to hear Sweet Georgia Sound that afternoon, I switched gears and went out to the opening night of Uncle Stumpy’s Pig Sty and Saloon at Deadwood Station. No, I didn’t make up the name. Located just through the Red Bank side of the Cherokee Boulevard tunnel past Nikki’s, it is a most unique restaurant and music venue. Built as a wild-west saloon, it has a jail, jury box, a burnout pit, a big stage for performing acts, and an outdoor barbeque pit for cooking their fine ribs. Most of the facility is outside on the huge patio decks, but under cover. You have to see it to appreciate it. No Big Deal was playing to a big, enthusiastic crowd, and we had a chance to sample the superb ribs. Friendly service, good food, and great music – it’s a combination that spells success. They will have live music every weekend. Get your Riverbend Festival Pins now at the discounted rate. Just 537 hours until the start of Riverbend! www.riverbendfestival.com Live!
