Rivermont Elementary School Students Participate In Bring Up Grades Program posted May 15, 2008 The students at Rivermont Elementary School love BUGs since the Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga, started a program at the school called Bring Up Grades, or as the students know it, the BUG program. On Friday at 3 p.m., 65 students will be recognized at Rivermont Elementary School. Each of the 65 students brought up one grade while maintaining grades in other subject areas during the grading period. All BUG recipient names are placed on the BUG Honor Roll and students will be recognized at a special after-school ice cream party. The Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga sponsors the program and will present each student with a certificate, BUG pencil and BUG T-Shirt. Students are recognized for increasing one grade while maintaining grades in all the other subject areas. Each student sets a goal of bringing up one grade each grading period. Students are encouraged to continue this process and will hopefully increase grades in many subjects by the end of the school year. “The beauty of the BUG program is that it encourages students to focus on making one small accomplishment at a time,” said Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga President Joyce Owens. “When a child reaches his/her self-determined goal, it promotes a sense of accomplishment which motivates them to continue achieving.” |
