An opening and dedication of new facilities for Teen Challenge of the Mid-South will be held on May 30 at 11:30 a.m. at 1108 W. 33rd Street. The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce is assisting with arrangements for the celebration.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Teen Challenge is the oldest, largest and most successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation residency program for men and women in the world. Teen Challenge has over 1000 centers in 80 different countries with over 300 here in the United States.
Teen Challenge students come from all walks of life. They may be referred by parents, neighbors, pastors or counselors; they may be court-ordered into treatment or come from the streets, detoxification facilities or hospitals. The program is offered at no charge to those desperately seeking help from life-controlling addictions.
While in the program students are involved in faith-based group classes and also spend time working on individualized studies designed to assist each student in dealing with personal issues. They also gain job skills and can complete their GED while in the program.
The Teen Challenge of the Mid South was formed in 1978. For 30 years the local Teen Challenge has been able to offer hope to those who have nowhere else to turn. The organization is funded by businesses, clients’ families, churches, individuals, grants and foundations.
The new facility will increase the organization’s capacity by 150 percent and reduce the time prospective students have to wait to get into the program.
