Emily Gadd officially signed papers Tuesday to continue her softball career at Maryville College.

She was a four-year standout for the Lady Irish softball team and she was a key contributor on the 2006 state champion volleyball team.

Gadd helped lead the Lady Irish to over 80 wins and four tournament championships in her softball career with Notre Dame.

Notre Dame Athletics Director Howie Sompayrac said, “As good of a player as Emily is, she is even a better person. I think a few qualities that will serve Emily best as a collegiate student-athlete are her work ethic, her tremendous attitude and her passion to be the best.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Emily for three years and she was a leader on and off the field from the moment she joined us as a freshman.”

“As a junior (the last year I coached her), I remember Emily was always the one with the big hit in pressure situations that would ignite our team (she had 10 game winning RBI’s her junior year alone),” said Sompayrac. A couple of my fondest memories of Emily as a player were when she hit a towering home run to help clinch the Tiger Classic (in 2007) and the two game winning home runs she hit (each on Senior Night) at Frost Stadium (2007 & 2008). The bottom line for Maryville College is with Emily Gadd, they are getting ‘the total package.’”

Emily is the daughter of Mike and Jessica Gadd. “Mike and Jessica are wonderful people, and it is no surprise why Emily is such a special person,” said Sompayrac.

Emily will be joining a Maryville softball program that is rich in success and tradition. Maryville has made it to the NCAA tournament in two of the last six seasons (2002 & 2007). Maryville was also champion of the Great South Athletic Conference in 2002.

The Scots head coach is Danny Fish and, when asked about Emily, he said, “She is a strong student-athlete that enjoyed a solid career at Notre Dame. I think she is prepared for a smooth transition to Maryville College.”

Maryville College is a liberal arts school (in Division III) located in East Tennessee. The school is nestled in between The Great Smoky Mountains and Knoxville.
