Police Blotter: Pair Works Beer Heist

The owner of Discount Foods on Fourth Avenue said two men worked together to get two 12-packs of Bud Ice beer out of the store without paying.

Lakhwinder Singh said a black male about 5'11" and 200 pounds with a black ball cap and orange shorts went back to the cooler and got the beer. He then placed it on the floor near the front door.

The second man, who is 5'8" and 180 pounds with a medium afro, came inside, got the beer, and both promptly departed.

The men were about 35-40 years old, the owner said.

He said the incident was caught on video.

At the Signal Mountain Wal-Mart, a white female took a Dell 22-inch flat screen monitor and walked out of the garden center with it.

The woman, who is age 35-45 and 5' and 105 pounds, got in a green Jeep Cherokee. It was driven by a white female with a white male in the front passenger seat.

Artist David Akriev of Williams Street found that someone stole the copper wiring out of his outside air conditioner.

The copper was valued at $100.

Gina Hightower of Tomahawk Trail came home to find the rear door kicked in and her house ransacked.

She found her 36-inch flat screen TV, a DVD player, a VCR and a cable box piled in the living room.

Apparently, nothing was taken.

George Oister of Sears at Hamilton Place said he spotted a mother-daughter team shoplifting.

He said the mother, Audrea Wilkey, tried to leave without paying for shorts and a bracelet worth $50. The daughter had a shirt and socks worth $30.

It was found the mother and daughter had items from a number of other stores - and no receipts. They included American Eagle, Victoria's Secret, Journeys, Hot Topics, Abercrombie and Fitch and The Pet Company.

Only Sears would agree to prosecute.

The Wilkeys were charged with theft under $500.

Brandon Kammer said he parked his vehicle on W. Sixth Street. When he returned, the passenger window was cut open.

An MP3/CD player was removed from the dashboard.

Jesse McAdoo of Shady Lane said someone got into his carport and took a number of items.

They include his lawn mower, blower, trimmer, battery booster pack, pressure washer, miter saw and bandsaw.

A woman told police she got in her 2000 Jeep Wrangler and it began to make a clinking sound. She said the noise got worse by the time she reached Blackwell Automotive.

A mechanic said someone had loosened the oil filter so that all the oil had run out.

The woman suspects her soon-to-be ex-husband.

Police said Lawanda Rutherford got out of her car to pump gas at a station on Dayton Pike. She forgot to put the car in park and she left the driver's door open.

The car began to roll and the door knocked her down.

She was taken by ambulance to Memorial Northpark Hospital.

A mother on Youngstown Road called police to try to break up a fight between her sons. She said they were knocking holes in the walls and she could not get them to stop.

One boy had abrasions on his wrist and the other had abrasions on his back.

The boys said it was over a video game.

Police were advised to be on the lookout for a "lunatic" on Fourth Avenue.

It was supposed to be a woman who wanted to tell officers about drug activity in the area and a sex scandal involving a judge.

The woman could not be found.

A woman told an officer she parked her car in the 300 block of Cherry Street. The officer found it for her in the 300 block of Market Street.

The officer said the woman was so intoxicated that he had to call a friend to take her home.

On Browns Ferry Road, a woman alerted police that the neighbors were in a squabble. She said she saw the son lock his father in a shed.

The wife of the man in the garage told an officer that her husband is deaf and blind and it would not do any good to knock on the door. She said she did not have a key to the garage or the garage door opener.

The officer called the son, who said the father had gone in the garage because he wanted to be alone.

The officer began to shake the garage door, and the man finally came out.

He said he was fine.
