McCallie Lacrosse Takes Second In TSLA Division 1 Championship
posted May 15, 2008

The McCallie lacrosse team traveled to MBA for the TSLA Division 1 Championship Weekend held May 10-11 at Montgomery Bell Academy. McCallie earned a spot in the championship game after a convincing win over Houston in the semifinal game on Saturday.

McCallie had a chance to avenge a mid-season, one-goal loss to MUS, but fell short in a 12-6 loss. The Owls jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead.

Marshall Burke assisted Sean Ford to put McCallie on the board with sixteen seconds left in the first quarter. T.J. Kemp took advantage of an extra-man opportunity to bring the Blue Tornado within two.

MUS answered with back-to-back goals, making it 6-2 at halftime. McCallie struck first in the second half with a tough no-angle shot by Will Lowe on a feed from Ford, but MUS responded again; this time with three unanswered goals.

Six minutes into the third quarter, Ford scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Scott Hughes; MUS answered again with back-to-back goals.

MUS's lone fourth quarter goal came three minutes into the fourth quarter. Destin Whitehurst and Scott Hughes scored the last two goals of the game, cutting the lead to six.

McCallie was presented with a runner-up trophy, finished the season with an impressive 13-2 record.
