What's Happening At The Old Stone Cup Site by Janet Wilson posted May 16, 2008
Riverhouse has a varied menu with appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. We decided to start our meal with the house-made chips and salsa ($5.25). The chips were warm and crispy with that fresh-made flavor, and the salsa was chunky with the right amount of seasonings. Since they have only the one type of salsa, it is not “hot”. The chips were a bit greasy, but the taste and crunch were good. Wayne ordered the turkey club sandwich ($6.75) and I ordered the Rosemary BLT wrap ($5.95). Both are served with fries, hot and crisp, but not fresh-cut. Wayne’s sandwich was chock full of turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato. He said the sandwich, served on toast, was very tasty and he would order it again. My wrap came disguised as a sandwich made with Texas toast. I removed the BLT from the inside, cut it into a salad and enjoyed it. The bacon had a hint of sweetness and I found it to be quite delicious. I also ordered a bowl of French Onion Soup ($3.75). Our server said it was a small bowl and would not be enough for a meal, but for me, it would have been, so it wasn’t significant that I only ate the insides of the sandwich! I noticed on the menu such items as a Salmon Salad, catfish, and several pasta dishes. I did ask for a carry-out menu to help with the article, but was told they don’t have these (our server said “I don’t know why we don’t have them, people ask all the time”). I also asked for one to be faxed, but was told the fax was broken. Seems like it would help business if they got these two items corrected – there was only one other customer when we were there. Riverhouse is a nice little place and we would probably go back. Hours for Riverhouse are Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM, and on Friday and Saturday until 10:00 PM. READER PET PEEVE OF THE WEEK: “I will not go eat at another "chain" restaurant until they begin making real food again. Usually you can at least count on salads or steaks to be freshly made. Recently, I ordered a hamburger at . . . . ., thinking it had to be freshly grilled. I like ground meat well done so as not to get e. coli or other germs from the meat. The burger came out not only cold, but still frozen in the middle, as well as bright red. The bun was stale, too. . . . today they mostly microwave entre's that are prepared somewhere else and shipped in frozen. The quality in the last few years has gotten terrible, and I prefer to eat at a mom & pop's meat and three or somewhere that the food is actually cooked from scratch. Otherwise, I might as well just get a frozen dinner at the grocery store and microwave it at home.” We look forward to receiving your restaurant comments/pet peeves – cdojanet@chattanoogadineout.com |
