Red Cross Swing For Relief Classic Set For June 16
Golf Tournament to Benefit Local Disaster Relief Operations
posted May 16, 2008

The Swing for Relief Classic, a charity golf tournament hosted by the Chattanooga Firefighters Local 820 and ChattanoogaHASFUN.com, will be held Monday, June 16 at the Champions Club at Hampton Creek in Ooltewah. Proceeds from the event will help support the Greater Chattanooga Area American Red Cross's local disaster relief operations.

"As firefighters we know how much victims of house fires benefit from the emotional and financial support provided by Red Cross volunteers. We count on these volunteers to come to a fire scene any time of the day or night to help families that need shelter, clothing and food," said Jeff Eldridge, president of the Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association, Local 820.

"It is important for us to help the Red Cross, without financial support from the community they would not be able to provide client assistance to those in need or pay for the training a registered Red Cross volunteer must go through before going out on a disaster call."

The golf tournament, a four-person select shot format, will have both morning and afternoon tee times with trophies awarded to the top three finishers in each session.

The entry fee for each four-person team is $500 and $125 for individuals. Each golfer will receive a free pair of golf shoes, range balls, a Swing for Relief goodie bag and chance to win door prizes.

Brewer Interactive and Southern Champion Tray have been instrumental in organizing and promoting the tournament.

"We are proud to be a part of Swing for Relief. Our goal is to sell out the tournament in order to help this great organization. As a community we need to be sure that our local Red Cross Chapter has the resources it needs to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters," said Sandra Brewer, director of sales and marketing for Brewer Interactive. "We encourage companies to help sponsor the event and for golfers to show their support of the Red Cross by participating in what will be a fun and exciting day."
