A hearing has been set for June 23 on charges brought by a Chattanooga attorney against City Councilwoman Carol Berz for allegedly falsely claiming she is an attorney.
Attorney Barry Abbott filed the charges with a grievance committee of the state Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission.
Robin Flores, another local attorney, is assisting attorney Abbott.
Attorney Flores said he and attorney Abbott plan to call witnesses "who heard Ms. Berz say at forums while she was running for City Council that 'I'm a lawyer.'"
Attorney Flores said, "The committee will be deciding whether the charges are true and, if so, whether they arise to an ethical violation."
Ms. Berz is involved in a mediation practice.
