Chattanooga State Softball Finally Loses After 31 Straight posted May 17, 2008 The Chattanooga State Lady Tiger softball team finally lost at the National Junior College softball tournament in Plant City, Fla., after 31 straight wins. The Lady Tigers were defeated 4-3 by Wallace State Community College at Hanceville in the winner's bracket finals on Friday night. Earlier Friday, Chattanooga State won over Iowa Western, 4-2. On Thursday, the #2-ranked Lady Tigers overwhelmed South Georgia College, 8-2, and beat Butler 3-1. Chattanooga State was to play the loser of Santa Fe/San Jacinto-South at noon on Saturday. The winner plays Wallace-Hanceville at 2 p.m. and would have to beat them twice to win the national championship. Wallace-Hanceville (65-8) was ranked #4 in the tournament, but is the only undefeated team in the tournament after winning four straight. Chattanooga State is now 58-8. In the Wallace-Hanceville loss, the Lady Tigers led 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. But Wallace-Hanceville scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh when Hannah Strength tripled with two on. Casey Saunders singled in a run for the Lady Tigers in the fifth, then Krista Goodlet doubled in two runs in the sixth. Goodlet was out trying to make it to third on the hit. |
