Chattanooga Lookouts Fall To Mississippi Braves Saturday, 9-2 by Tim Evearitt posted May 17, 2008
The Lookouts (22-21) played poorly in the field again committing four errors, and the M-Braves (16-27) made them pay big time. Friday night Chattanooga lost 12-1. The Braves out hit the Lookouts 10-to-5. Chattanooga's Shaun Cumberland went 2-for-4; Justin Turner was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI The Braves broke a 2-2 tie with a seven run outburst in the seventh inning. Scoring was highlighted by Jason Perry's grand slam homer. Starting pitcher Daryl Thompson (2-2) did not pitch poorly though this was not a great outing. He finished with 6 innings, 6 hits, 4 ER, 3 walks but 0 strikeouts. In the disastrous seventh, Thompson gave up a double to Javier Guzman and he scored on Eric Eymann's throwing error on a bunt single by Paul Bennett. The four earned runs off Thompson pushed his ERA from 1.28 to 1.63. Reliever Carlos Fisher took over and was hit hard in his one inning of work; he yielded 4 hits and 4 earned runs. Todd Redmond (3-1) got the win for Mississippi. * * * * * * The teams have two games remaining in the current series. Sunday's game starts at 2:15 p.m. with Monday a 7:15 start. Sunday afternoon the Braves send Tommy Hanson (1-0) to face the Lookouts James Avery (1-2). Hanson is one of Atlanta's top pitching prospects.
