Lee Softball Top Seed In NAIA World Series posted May 18, 2008 KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the official seedings and bracket for the 2008 AVISTA-NAIA World Series, slated to run from May 23-30 in Lewiston, Idaho. Lee (Tenn.) University is the No. 1 seed and will have a bye along with No. 2 seed, Oklahoma City University. Last years champion, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) College is the No. 3 seed and faces No. 6 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University on Friday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. PST. The event marks the 52nd annual World Series and 17th time that Lewis-Clark State has hosted, including the ninth straight. LCSC has won an NAIA-record 15 overall titles, including the last two. The format is a 10-team, double-elimination Championship with the winner being crowned either May 29 or May 30, dependent upon if the Champion team has to play in the Loser or Winners Bracket. The World Series begins Friday with No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) University battling No. 10 Jamestown (N.D.) College at 8:30 a.m. No. 4 Union (Ky.) College is making its first ever appearance and will take on No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University (59-8) First time Lee has been seeded No. 1 in their three all-time appearances (No. 6 in 2005; No. 6 in 2007). Awaits the winner of No. 8 Bellevue and No. 9 Ohio Dominican on Saturday -- has never faced either team in Championship action. Trying to win a first-round game for the first time (0-2). Lone win in the World Series was against St. Thomas (Fla.) last year. Has allowed an average of 7.6 runs in five all-time games. No. 2 Oklahoma City University (55-10) Takes on the winner of No. 7 Spring Arbor and No. 10 Jamestown on Saturday -- OCU has never faced either club. Making 10th World Series appearance, which is tied for third all-time. Heads into 2008 WS winning six of its last eight games. Has won four straight opening round games. Stands with 26 all-time wins, good for fourth on the all-time list. In first WS since 2005, the year OCU won its first ever baseball Championship. Seeded No. 2 this year, same as its Championship year of 2005. Has advanced to the title game in its last four appearances (2005, 2004, 2003, 2002). No. 3 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) College (53-5) Owns the most Championship titles (15), wins (111) and appearances (26) of any NAIA baseball program. Seeded No. 3 this year, takes on No. 6 Embry-Riddle on Friday -- stands 2-2 in Championship action against the Eagles. Appeared in 10 straight World Series. Has won last two WS Championships; four of last six. Has appeared in 20 Championship title games (15-5). Heads into 2008 on a five-game WS winning streak; winners in 11 of last 12 games. Has won 18 of their last 19 opening round games (loss in 2006). In 26 previous appearances, has won at least one game in 25 of 26 events (1979). Has not been shut-out in the last 15 games (5-0 loss vs. Embry-Riddle in 2005.) Has not lost back-to-back games since 2004 - a streak of 18 games. Holds a 77-15 record when the WS is played in Lewiston. No. 4 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University (45-10) Seeded No. 4 this year and takes on No. 5 Union on Friday -- it will be the first meeting between the two schools in World Series action. Is just the third school from the state of Kentucky to advance to the World Series (Georgetown & Spalding) Seeded No. 5 and takes on No. 4 Azusa Pacific on Friday. Looking to become the first team since College of Idaho in 1998 to win the World Series in its first ever appearance. No. 6 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University (42-16) Has now appeared in six of the last seven World Series. Seeded No. 6 this year and takes on No. 3 Lewis-Clark State on Friday - holds a 2-2 WS record against the Warriors. Trying to become the first at-large team to win the WS since 1980 (Grand Canyon (Ariz.)). Has scored 10 or more runs in 10 of its 23 games - stands 7-3 in those contests. Played three of the nine 2008 WS opponents in its history going 4-4 overall. Has won at least once in five of six overall WS appearances. No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) University (37-7) Seeded No. 7 this year and takes on No. 10 Jamestown (N.D.) - has never faced JC in Championship play. Appearing in fifth overall World Series and second straight. Advanced to last years title game before falling 9-2 to Lewis-Clark State. Has won three of its last five WS games -- started out losing six of its first seven games. Snapped a three-game opening round losing streak last year with a 8-5 win over Walsh (Ohio). No. 8 Bellevue (Neb.) University (51-15) Holds the No. 8 seed and faces No. 9 Ohio Dominican on Friday -- has never played ODU in Championship action. Stands second among all schools with its 12th appearance; tied for eighth with 19 all-time victories. Trying to become the first at-large team to win the WS since 1980 (Grand Canyon (Ariz.)). Has won two straight and three of last four opening round games. Has lost six straight meetings in the WS against Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). In 11 previous appearances, has won at least one game in eight events. No. 9 Ohio Dominican University (40-14) Seeded No. 9 this year and takes on No. 8 Bellevue on Friday -- has never faced BC in WS play. First appearance in the last three years; sixth overall. Looking for its third straight opening-round win in the World Series. Stands 0-3 against the Tournament field in all-time Championship play. In last appearance in 2005, allowed 34 total runs in three games (11.3/game). No. 10 Jamestown (N.D.) College (32-18) Appearing in its second ever World Series with the first coming back in 2004.
