Lookouts Pummel M-Braves Sunday, 17-11 posted May 18, 2008
Mississippi scored four runs in the first off of Lookouts starting pitcher James Avery. A Van Pope three-run shot highlighted the M-Braves’ rally. Shaun Cumberland led off the first for the Lookouts with a double and eventually found his way home on a Justin Turner ground out to third. Mississippi tacked-on two more runs in the second to extend their lead to 6-1. Chattanooga came roaring back in the third by plating seven runs. Shaun Cumberland hit a two-run shot to account for part of the rally, while an Eric Eymann bases loaded double accounted for three more runs. Eymann would end the game with a Lookouts season-high eight RBIs. The M-Braves added another run in the fourth, but, once again, the Lookouts retaliated in grand fashion. This time, they would come away with four runs, three of which resulting from a bases-loaded Eymann double. After a 1:38 rain delay, the Lookouts offense picked up where they left off. A Tonys Gutierrez single prefaced doubles by Sean Henry and Eymann. With three more runs on the board, the Lookouts now held a 15-7 edge. After two more runs from Mississippi in the eighth, the Lookouts negated the M-Braves’ effort by scoring two more runs of their own. Cody Strait hit an RBI double and eventually crossed home plate on a Danny Dorn pinch hit single. After a rough start to the ninth in which he yielded two runs, Derrik Lutz settled down and induced a game-ending double play to give the Lookouts a 17-11 win. Robert Manuel (2-0) earned the win for the Lookouts, after throwing three shutout innings in relief. Tommy Hanson dropped to 1-1 on the season for the M-Braves.
