Chattanooga Nature Center Launches Earthkeepers
posted May 19, 2008

This June, the Chattanooga Nature Center (CNC) will introduce an exciting new program for Earth-friendly enthusiasts that includes hikes, canoe trips and up-close visits with native animals. The Earthkeepers program is an activity-filled educational experience designed to empower individuals and families to preserve and protect the environment.

“Earthkeepers is a fun learning opportunity that demonstrates how each of us can make a difference in protecting our planet,” said Kyle Waggener, Director of Programs for the Chattanooga Nature Center. “It enables you explore nature in Chattanooga while finding out how each of us can contribute to conservation,” Waggener added .

The CNC offers a variety of programs that are categorized into three groups: educational programs (live animal discussions, bird and wildflower walks, and nature journaling), outdoor adventures ( hikes, caving and canoe trips) and environmental action experiences/workshops (composting, creek cleanup, invasive species removal and various CNC volunteer activities).

To become an Earth Keeper, enroll in five CNC programs – two educational programs, two outdoor adventures and one environmental action activity during the course of one year. Be sure to let the front desk personnel know you are joining the Earthkeepers program when you sign up for your first program.

Besides having fun and learning more about the natural world, participants will receive a $15 certificate toward a Chattanooga Nature Center membership for the following year, as well as recognition in the CNC’s newsletter and on its website.. Fees vary for each program and are listed at http://www.chattanature.org. For more information about the Earthkeepers program, call 423.821.1160.
