Police Break Up Large Fights At Club Phoenix posted May 20, 2008 Owners of Club Phoenix on Bonny Oaks Drive have been summoned before the city Beer Board after police had to break up large fights at the club early Monday morning. Around 1 a.m., police were called to 4251 Bonny Oaks Dr. at Club Phoenix on a large disorder. Officers responded to assist the Alcohol Beverage Commission for a routine bar check. The bar check was prior to the “Gucci Mom” performance. According to regulatory officers, there were an estimated 800 people in attendance in and around the club. While the officers were in the front, fights broke out inside and outside of the bar. Additional police assistance was called from surrounding sectors in an attempt to disperse the crowd. It has been estimated there were 20 to 25 police vehicles from the city police and the sheriff's department at the club. At one point the owner of the club approached the regulatory officers and stated he and his security could not control all the people and requested them to shut the place down. Officers were on the scene for approximately one hour trying to disperse the crowds and get the traffic flowing. There were no injuries reported in the incident. Club Phoenix will be cited to the Beer Board for running a disorderly business and allowing large fights on the premises, police said. The responsible parties for Club Phoenix will appear in front of the Beer Board the first Thursday in June. |
