Police Blotter: Daughters At Home When Burglar Makes Call posted May 21, 2008 A Standifer Gap Road man told police his two daughters were home when a burglar tried to get in. Jeff Horton said his daughters called him at work to report that they went to open a window to let in some fresh air. Then they saw a black male wearing a white collar shirt and blue jeans drive up in a small silver sedan. He parked in a space next to the Horton family apartment. The daughters then heard a screen rattling on the window that had been opened. They went to the window and saw the black male hurry away. Police found damage to the screen. * * * A woman on Parkdale Avenue said her 11-year-old son was home after being suspended from Barger Elementary School. She said he told her that about two weeks earlier an 11-year-old girl at the school pulled from her book bag what looked like a gun. He said she did not make any threats and she walked off. * * * A parent of a student at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences said a female student at the school had been threatening her daughter. The matter was discussed with school officials and both girls were talked to, it was stated. * * * Riley Scott said he was walking through Jack's Alley when a white male asked what he was staring at. He said he cannot remember what was said after that because the man punched him in the face several times. Police said the victim had red marks on his face. * * * Fermin Zapete said he was putting something in the trunk of his vehicle on Fourth Avenue when a black male came up and asked him for money. He said the man then grabbed his wallet (containing $130 cash) and his cell phone. * * * Lori Hood said she walked back to her vehicle on Woodland Avenue and saw that the BMW next to her had been broken into. She found also that she had been a victim of a car break-in. Ms. Hood said she saw a white male walk to a gold-looking late 1980s-early 1990s Chevy van and then speed off. She gave chase, and, during the pursuit, she said the man began throwing items out of the van. She lost him around Dallas Road. Ms. Hood said she went back and found some of her items that he had thrown out, including a duffel bag and briefcase. She is missing about 15 CDs. * * * Police got a call about a suspicious male directing traffic on North Orchard Knob Avenue. He was described as a white male with long hair in a ponytail and wearing a button-down shirt. Police went to the scene and found only a school patrol officer directing traffic. * * * A woman on Queens Drive confided to officers that every morning she sees three people standing around her breakfast table. She said she does not know how they get in the house. The woman said she "knows this sounds crazy," but "she does not think it is."
