BEST Applauds TVA Targets For Energy Efficiency
posted May 21, 2008

Bellefonte Efficiency & Sustainability Team announced Wednesday that members fully support TVA's plan to work for energy efficiency as presented to the TVA board Monday. A target of reducing generation 1,400 megawatts by 2012 through energy efficiency and reduction of demand by users was set.

"Critical to making dramatic reductions in peak demand is the TVA Board's early adoption of a Time of Use rate structure,” said Louise Gorenflo, BEST member. "Real price signals for the actual costs for power generation will provide consumers the incentive to reduce peak usage."

"The adoption of the Energy Efficiency and Demand Response guiding principles is good for Tennessee Valley citizens," said BEST member Sandy Kurtz. "Energy efficiency, demand response and renewable energies are clean energies that provide a way to the future without resorting to new nuclear generation which is fraught with performance and waste problems.”

BEST is a chapter of the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League.
