Corker Votes Against Cloture On "Fiscally Irresponsible" Medicare Bill
posted June 12, 2008

Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) today opposed a motion to invoke cloture on S. 3101, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008.

He said, "This legislation goes well beyond addressing the Medicare physician update and attempts to expand Medicare entitlement spending, further leading the program toward bankruptcy."

The cloture motion failed by a vote of 54 to 39.

“Today’s vote takes us down the shortest path to a bipartisan bill that can be signed into law,” Sen. Corker said. “I’m confident that this will happen in the coming days so that we can prevent these harmful physician payment cuts from going into effect before the June 30 deadline and protect seniors’ access to health care.”
