Trooper Steven Bourque of the Tennessee Highway Patrol is hospitalized in Chattanooga after being involved in a crash Monday morning in Manchester.

It happened at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Bushy Branch Road as Trooper Bourque directed traffic leaving the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Coffee County.

A preliminary investigation reveals that Trooper Bourque was traveling west with his blue lights activated when a 2007 Suzuki Forenza Four-Door, also traveling westbound, attempted to make a left turn into a driveway and struck Trooper Bourque’s motorcycle.

The driver of the 2007 Suzuki, Zeenat S. Furniturewala, 23, of Altmaonte Springs, Fla., was cited for driving on an expired license.

Trooper Bourque suffered injuries to his right ankle and shoulder and was transported by LifeForce to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Although Trooper Bourque suffered broken bones in the crash, it is unclear at this time whether surgery will be required.

The THP Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.) from Chattanooga was called to assist Sgt. Jeff Webb with investigating the crash scene. At this time, the crash is still under investigation.

Trooper Bourque, 35, started his career as a state trooper in January 2002. He is assigned to Marion County in the Chattanooga District. A photograph of Trooper Bourque accompanies this release.
