Battle Of The Golden Corrals by Janet Wilson posted June 20, 2008
For starters, their eggs are TERRIBLE. They are cooked so hard, you have to cut them out in cubes to put them on your plate. I usually just pass them over. Sometimes I will go to the egg station and have one prepared for me, but since they only have one person handling the station, the line is usually too long. My favorite item used to be the pork loin, but now it is mostly grease and gristle so I skip that as well. Usually my plate consists of a small bit of grits, the egg from the egg station if possible, and sometimes a bit of gravy when the grits are stiff. I know, gravy on grits? That’s not the way I like them, but you have to work with what they have. Bacon runs the gamut from being burned to barely cooked. Recently we went there for a dinner meeting and I couldn’t believe the table set-up. So many tables were shoved into the private meeting room, you could only sit on one side of the table because the next table was so tight against it, you couldn’t get the chairs out to sit! That certainly didn’t get more people into the room. We thought maybe it was just this particular GC, so last weekend we drove up to the one on Hixson Pike. Are they having a contest to see who can be worse? When we went through the line to pay, I used my debit card and asked for change to leave for a tip. The cashier said she had already gone too far on the transaction and couldn’t to it. No problem, I was fairly certainly I could come up with enough for a tip. Most times there is regular gravy and sausage gravy, sometimes even gravy with chipped beef but they only had sausage-less, no pork tenderloin to try, and the chicken was more soggy than crisp. Several containers were completely empty. There was a small container with some sort of yellow, lumpy, clabbered looking runny stuff, but we had no idea what it was. We were thinking it might have been some sort of sauce, but the tray next to it was empty so there was no way of knowing. I think this was a first – Wayne didn’t go back for seconds! He said he just couldn’t do it. And, we lucked up – turned out we didn’t need that tip money after all. We were never given a second plate or a drink refill. As a matter of fact, we were never acknowledged at all! It’s no wonder that the breakfast crowds are getting smaller and smaller. Where are all the good breakfast places for Saturday and Sunday? Share your opinions on Golden Corral (or any other restaurant) at Chattanooga Dine Out We’re growing by leaps and bounds and look forward to you joining us soon. |
