Potts Family Dream Home On Lookout Mountain On The Market
by Nathan Walldorf, Herman Walldorf & Co Realtors
posted June 20, 2008

Atop Lookout Mountain on the eastern brow, the Potts family built their dream home 10 years ago. They moved down to Lookout Mountain from Chicago and wanted to live on a five-acre parcel of land with a breathtaking view.

They found the perfect lot in the Rising Fawn area of Lookout Mountain at 9107 Highway 157. Nature abounds in the private and tranquil setting of the home with incredible pastoral view of the Lafayette valley, Pigeon Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The drive through the woods to the home reveals a well-maintained stucco home with a stone foundation and with beautiful landscaping from the family who once owned the Barn Nursery.
Mr. Potts saw the trend setting construction of a true timber frame home on HGTV and dreamed of building a similar home on Lookout Mountain. The intricate construction project took two years to complete, and Hearthstone Inc built the solid oak timber frames of the house in Macon, Ga., that were later erected on site. The interior ceilings have great character with the exposed oak beams of the house’s framing and with hardwood tongue and groove boards between the beams. The back wall of the house is filled with Kolbe windows to show off the million dollar view outside. The living room has a vaulted ceiling with a stacked stone fireplace including a blower to circulate the heat created by a wood burning fireplace. Off of the kitchen is a poured cement screened porch with hurricane screens for high winds. The uncovered area of the porch extends the length of the house. You can step out from the master bedroom onto the porch for your own private viewing.

There is also a new sunroom off of the kitchen with Brazilian Mahogany floors to enjoy the views and the wooded surroundings. The whole main level is full of warm hardwood floors.

The Potts’ attention to detail is seen throughout the house from lighting installed on top of the timber frames to keep the house bright to the beautiful cabinetry in the kitchen.

The kitchen also boasts of high-end Jenn-Air appliances and beautiful granite counter tops. You’ll never be without hot water with the circulating hot water system that has been installed. Nor will you be cold in the winter with the energy efficient hybrid heat and air system and trend setting foam core insulation behind the stucco walls of the home. No one would believe how well supported the home is with the large poured cement columns built under the home to support the structure.

The sunny master suite is on the main level with a great view and with a beautiful bathroom and walk-in closet. The bathroom has tiled floors, a Jacuzzi tub, a separate shower, and natural stained wood cabinets with a double sink.

The two guest bedrooms are located on the second floor. They are large rooms with roomy closets and storage space in the eaves. Both guest bedrooms have windows with views to the valley below. There is a nice guest bathroom for the 2 rooms in the hallway, and an open office area next to the guest bathroom. The office feels like a large loft with a close-up view of the oak timbers and the tongue & groove wood ceilings.

The guest bathroom has the same natural stained vanity as the master bathroom and tile floors to give your guests a nice place to bathe.

With the amazing view that this home has to offer and the high quality of construction with which it was constructed, you could not build this home today for the asking price of 9107 Highway 157 at $549,000. Brow lots next to and a few doors down from this house are selling for $250,000 alone. In all, the home has three bedrooms, three and one half bathrooms, and has 3,000 square feet of living space with room to expand in the basement.

The home is being offered for sale by Charlie and Nathan Walldorf of Herman Walldorf & Co. Realtors. You can contact them at 423-756-2400.
