Miss Scenic City Ellen Carrington Chosen Miss Tennessee by Wendy King posted June 22, 2008
She is the second Chattanooga representative in three years to capture the state title. The 21-year-old senior music major at Union University in Jackson, whose dormitory was destroyed in a February tornado, was a double preliminary winner in talent and swimsuit. She also was the recipient of the Miss Tennessee Community Service award for her Volunteerism platform which includes authoring a children's book "Chester's Helping Paws" and assisting with tornado relief efforts. Miss Carrington won a $12,000 scholarship and will represent the state at January's Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas. She was making her third appearance at Miss Tennessee finishing fourth-runner up last year. Miss Metropolitan Hannah-Wade Powell, who won a swimsuit preliminary earlier in the week, and Miss First Frontier Amy Maddox, a student at Lee University, were among the top 10 finalists. Miss Watauga Valley Brooke Waddell was first-runner up and Miss Congeniality, Miss Pioneer Amy Colley was second runner-up.
